Our creative community in South London

Rye Here Rye Now is a Peckham-based creative social platform I co-founded and ran with designer Miho Aishima from 2017-2022. Our events were open to creatives working across the industry - from illustrators and designers to photographers and sculptors. We held monthly socials and talks in South London, in addition to organising and hosting one-off events and workshops with Tate Modern, the London Design Festival and Peckham Festival.

The Rye Here Rye Now brand style needed to speak to creatives from across the industry and stand out both online and in person. We used only one typeface in three weights, and a set of six colours. Though restrictive this helped all our assets remain consistent and easily recognisable.

In 2020 we ran a Grad Spotlight across social media to give a platform to art and design students whose degree shows had been cancelled. Graduates shared their artwork and I created a month’s worth of assets, posting and highlighting a different student’s work every day in August.

Though Rye Here Rye Now started in South London, our online events attracted people from as far away as Hong Kong and Detroit. Because our attendees were so diverse we often took an illustrative approach - by keeping photography sparse it allowed anyone to see themselves as part of the community.
